SAN FRANCISCO (Legal Newsline) – Class action lawyers are targeting General Mills with a lawsuit that claims macaroni and cheese contains phthalates.
The firm Bursor & Fisher filed its case through plaintiff Michelle Devera on April 2 in California federal court, claiming members of the class wouldn’t have bought Annie’s Homegrown Macaroni & Cheese if they knew it contained phthalates, which are synthetic chemicals that make plastics flexible.
They can migrate into food, the lawsuit says, and bind with fats. They interfere with the body’s natural levels of estrogen and testosterone, the suit says.
“Acknowledging the harmfulness of phthalates and their presence in Defendant’s products, Defendant has pledged to take steps to remove these harmful chemicals from its products,” the suit says.
“Accordingly, Plaintiff seeks compensatory damages for all products purchased that still contain phthalates.”
