Lawyers sue over flea collars allegedly killing pets

LOS ANGELES (Legal Newsline) – A day after members of a House subcommittee asked for a voluntary recall of them, flea collars made by Elanco Animal Health became the subjects of a class action lawsuit.

Lawyers at Reese LLP, Sheehan & Associates and The Keeton Firm teamed to bring the case March 22 in California federal court, alleging Seresto brand flea collars have killed or harmed thousands of pets.

The lawsuit cites a recent report by the Midwest Center for Investigative Reporting and USA Today.

“Since the Seresto product’s introduction, those who experienced its harmful effects complained through Amazon.com’s customer reviews, through social media, to the EPA, and to Elanco’s previous owner, German conglomerate Bayer,” the lawsuit says.

“These complaints run the gamut from skin irritation to neurological issues including seizures to death.”

The MCIR report says there have been more than 75,000 incident reports and at least 1,698 deaths linked to the collar since 2012.
