BENTONVILLE, Ark. (Legal Newsline) - Behind-the-scenes drama has landed the contractors of the "Fixer to Fabulous" HGTV home renovation show in legal hot water in the Benton County Circuit Court.

According to documents filed on February 8, defendants Marrs Construction Inc. and Marrs Developing LLC approached plaintiffs Dana and Tyler Craddock of Bella Vista with an offer to renovate their home for the show. The Craddocks were not permitted to see the home during the renovation, because the reveal of the remodel was part of the show production.

The lawsuit says that both the plaintiffs and a Benton County inspector, also withheld from the home's renovations, were told that no structural work was being done to the property, and no projects that would require construction permits were undertaken.

However, when the reveal was recorded by the television show's production crew, the plaintiffs discovered the affirmations by the defendants to be false: new balconies were installed, electrical, water and plumbing circuits had been modified, noncompliant vents were installed in the kitchen, and a new catwalk was not verified with the Benton County Risk Reduction, the suit says.

The plaintiffs have been responsible for remedying the improper installations and procedures, while the defendants are accused of continuing to bask in their television fame and likely performing similar wrongful renovations on other homes, the suit says.

The contractor is charged with negligence, breach of implied warranty of sound workmanship and breach of contract. The plaintiffs want at least $75,000 in compensation, and are represented by Miller Butler Schneider Pawlik & Rozzell PLLC of Fayetteville.
