LOS ANGELES (Legal Newsline) – Legalzoom is facing a class action lawsuit that alleges it uses software to track how visitors use its website.
Scott Edelsberg at Edelsberg Law and Manuel Hiraldo of Hiraldo P.A. filed the case Jan. 20 in Los Angeles state court, and Legalzoom removed it to federal court on March 10. The lawsuit is brought under the Florida Security of Communications Act and alleges “session replay” software is violating the privacy rights of visitors to the site.
Legalzoom is accused of tracking mouse clicks and movements, information entered and pages and content viewed by class members, as well as tracking users’ physical locations.
“Plaintiff was never notified that his electronic communications were being intercepted, and Plaintiff never consented to interception of his electronic communication by Defendant,” the suit says.
Harms allegedly suffered by the class are invasion of privacy and exposure of private information.
