Aldi hit with lawsuit over how much coffee comes in a can

CHICAGO (Legal Newsline) – Aldi is one of a few defendants facing a lawsuit that claims cans of coffee shortchange customers.

Eileen Brodsky and Rhonda Diamond filed a lawsuit Dec. 21 in Chicago federal court against Aldi, Coffee Holding Company and Pan American Coffee. Like other lawsuits already filed against Folgers, their case alleges the promise of a certain amount of cups of coffee from a package is impossible.

At issue are Beaumont coffee products.

“In a practice that offends reasonable consumer expectations, Defendants employ a classic bait-and-switch scheme that causes unsuspecting consumers to spend more money for less than the advertised amount of coffee they believe they are purchasing,” the lawsuit says.

“The packaging and labeling of the Coffee Products prominently advertise that they will produce a certain number of servings when, in fact, they do not.”

California lawyers at Bursor & Fisher filed the case.
