MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Legal Newsline) – Former owners and operators of properties in Milwaukee are accused of contaminating the area around them.

A lawsuit filed Nov. 10 in Wisconsin federal court names PPG Industries, WCC Inc., MD Fifth Ward Properties, Hydrite Chemical and WPC Technologies as defendants. At issue are properties on South Barclay Street and East Oregon Street.

Barclay Lofts is the current owner of the properties and brings its lawsuit under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act to recover costs it spent cleaning them up.

Testing following an underground storage tank leak in 2006 showed contamination by volatile organic compounds, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, RCRA metals, arsenic, cadmium, lead, trichloroethylene and petroleum.

Davis & Kuelthau and Winthrop & Weinstine are representing the plaintiff.
