BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Legal Newsline) – Flushable wipes sold at CVS are clogging toilets, a class action lawsuit says.

Filed Nov. 11 in New York federal court against the company, the suit claims CVS wipes do not disintegrate as effectively as toilet paper and can cause clogs. To say they are safe for sewer or septic systems is deceptive, the plaintiffs attorneys claim.

“The Environmental Protection Agency has taken the stance that the public should not flush any type of wipe,” the complaint says. “New York City alone spends millions of dollars a year to address and remediate sewer systems and repair plant equipment…”

Clogged toilets and pipes and flooding are some of the results of flushing the wipes, the suit says.

The firm Robbins Geller is representing plaintiff Scott Cholewa, who doesn’t allege his toilet has clogged.
