NEW YORK (Legal Newsline) – Golden butter cookies put out by Pepperidge Farm are mislabeled, a new class action lawsuit says.
Vegetable oils are actually more prominent in the production of the cookies, says the suit filed Oct. 28 in New York federal court by lawyer Spencer Sheehan.
“Though the product contains butter, it also contains vegetable oils, as shortening ingredients,” the suit says. “Defendant’s branding and packaging of the product is designed to – and does – deceive, mislead and defraud plaintiff and consumers.”
Buyers have paid higher prices than they would have if they had known the cookies weren’t as buttery as they were promised to be, the suit says.
