Decaffeinated Maxwell House coffee not pure, lawsuit alleges

Federal Court
Maxwellhouse

WASHINGTON (Legal Newsline) – An advocate called the Clean Label Project Foundation is suing Kraft Heinz over allegations some of its coffee contains methylene chloride.

This would be in contrast to claims Maxwell House’s decaffeinated products are 100% Arabica Coffee and high-quality, the suit says.

“CLP conducted independent testing and discovered the presence of methylene chloride in the product; thus, the product was not pure and was adulterated with quantifiable amounts of a contaminant,” the suit says.

CLP filed its case in August in District of Columbia Superior Court. Kraft Heinz removed it to D.C. federal court on Oct. 15.

“KHC also knew or should have known how its food is sourced and processed… specifically the decaffeination process; therefore, KHC knew or should have known that the product contains levels of methylene chloride,” the suit says.
