Free shipping? Not so much, class action against LensProToGo says

BOSTON (Legal Newsline) – A promise of free shipping was a scam, says a new lawsuit on behalf of customers of LensProToGo.

Carlos Borges is the named plaintiff in a proposed class action lawsuit filed Aug. 18 against the company, which rents out camera equipment. Borges’ lawyers at Shapiro Haber filed the case in Boston federal court.

LensProToGo charged a higher price for equipment when renters picked the free shipping option than when they picked up the equipment on-site.

The complaint alleges the cost for renting a Canon XF405 camera to be $213 for rental cost, $19 for protection cost and free for shipping for a total of $232 plus tax. However, the same camera could be rented for $192 plus tax if the customer picked it up, the suit says.

“Tens of thousands of consumers have rented equipment from Defendant through Defendant’s website which is accessible to consumers throughout the United States,” the suit says.

“The Defendant has told Plaintiff, through counsel, that Defendant has rented cameras and other equipment to over 3,500 customers located in Massachusetts since October 2015.”
