Exxon sued by anti-pesticides group over clean energy claims

WASHINGTON (Legal Newsline) – An anti-pesticides advocacy group is suing Exxon with claims it lied about investing significantly in clean energy.

Beyond Pesticides filed its case in May in District of Columbia Superior Court, and the company recently removed it to federal court.

The group, which envisions a pesticide-free world, says Exxon is wrong to claim its clean energy activities are a significant proportion of its business.

“In short, ExxonMobil is greatly overstating the level in which it engages in cleaner forms of energy and the extent to which that energy is available, thereby deceiving consumers into believing that even purchases of ExxonMobil’s traditional fossil fuel-based products are an investment in cleaner forms of energy in the future.”
