LOS ANGELES (Legal Newsline) – A sushi restaurant has no interest in asking customers about their health to help Los Angeles County track the coronavirus and has filed a lawsuit over it.

Sasabune Beverly Hills is one of three plaintiffs to challenge a health department order requiring various establishments to collect personal information of each patron and disclose it upon demand to the county.

The order means to facilitate the county’s contact-tracing efforts.

“Unfortunately, they are so sweeping in nature that the result is a countywide data collection and warrantless search regime without appropriate safeguards in place,” the lawsuit says.

“Participation is not discretionary, it is compulsory. Those establishments failing to comply with the order face civil and criminal sanctions.

“The order in its present form is unlawful and infringes on the fundamental rights of citizens. There is no pandemic exception to the constitution.”
