SYRACUSE, N.Y. (Legal Newsline) — Cornell University is facing a class action from spring 2020 students who allege they are not receiving the educational services or quality of learning they paid for since the school's COVID-19 campus closure.
Olivia Haynie, on behalf of herself and all others similarly situated, filed a complaint April 23 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York against Cornell University, alleging unjust enrichment and other claims.
Haynie alleges that she and other students are entitled to a refund of their tuition and other fees paid to Cornell for the Spring 2020 semester due to the university's COVID-19 closure and suspension of in-person classes. She claims students have failed to receive the educational services and access to the university's facilities and that the online learning is "subpar."
Haynie seeks monetary relief, trial by jury, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by Phillip Fraietta, Max Roberts ad Sarah Westcot of Bursor & Fisher PA in New York and Miami.
