CHICAGO (Legal Newsline) —  A Minnesota police officer has filed a class action against United Airlines claiming the airline is refusing to refund him for a flight that was canceled due to COVID-19 outbreak travel restrictions.

Jacob Rudolph, individually and on behalf of all others similarly situated, filed a complaint  April 6 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois against United Airlines Holdings Inc., and United Airlines Inc., alleging unjust enrichment, fraudulent misrepresentation and other claims.

Rudolph purchased three United Airline tickets on Jan. 23, 2020, for $1,521.45 with plans to travel to Hilton Head, S.C., on April 4, 2020. He alleges that on March 16, 2020, he sent a written refund request to United after COVID-19 travel restrictions were put into place. Rudolph claims the airline told him he was only allowed a rebooking or ticket credit good for one year.

Rudolph seeks monetary relief, trial by jury, interest and all other just relief. He is represented by Steve Berman, Daniel Kurowski and Whitney Siehl of Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro LLP in Chicago.
