SAN FRANCISCO (Legal Newsline) — A Florida man has instituted a class action against Zoom alleging it illegally discloses the personally indentifiable information (PII) of its users to unauthorized third parties without consent.
Samuel Taylor, on behalf of himself and all others similarly situated, filed a complaint March 31 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Zoom Video Communications Inc., alleging negligence, violation of the California Unfair Competition Law, breach of implied contract, unjust enrichment, invasion of privacy, violation of California's Consumer Legal Remedies Act and Consumer Privacy Act.
Taylor alleges in his complaint that Zoom shares a user's PII, including the type of device and software the user has as well as their network carrier and location, with third parties such as Facebook. He claims the information shared by Zoom makes user's susceptible to voter fraud, medical fraud, phishing, and other identity-theft issues.
The plaintiffs seek monetary relief, trial by jury, interest and all other proper relief. They are represented by Hassan Zavareei and Katherine Aizpuru of Tycko & Zavareei LLP in Washington, D.C., and Annick Persinger of Tycko & Zavareei LLP in Oakland.
