NEW YORK (Legal Newsline) – Karen McDougal, who alleged a years-long extramarital affair with President Donald Trump, is suing Fox News over allegations of slander after one of its hosts allegedly falsely stated that she committed extortion against Trump.
Karen McDougal, a former Playboy Playmate, filed a complaint in the Supreme Court of the State of New York against Fox News Network LLC alleging slander. The case was transferred to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York by the defendant on Dec. 5
McDougal claims in her suit that on Dec. 10, 2018, Fox News personality Tucker Carlson falsely stated on his "Tucker Carlson Tonight" show, which airs on Fox News, that she "extorted Trump and that was why Trump caused the payment of $150,000 to be made" to her.
McDougal alleges during the show Carlson "repeatedly" accused her of committing extortion against Trump, which is a felony. She also alleges that according to statements made to federal prosecutors, the owner of National Enquirer magazine had initiated her payment in 2016 as a way to "suppress" her story regarding her extramarital affair with Trump "so as to prevent it from influencing Trump's bid for president."
McDougal seeks general and punitive damages, interest and all other proper and equitable relief. She is represented by Attorney Eric Berstein PC in New York.
