D.C. attorney general secures settlement with KFC operator over alleged unpaid wages

WASHINGTON (Legal Newsline) — District of Columbia Attorney General Karl A. Racine announced May 30 that Mitra QSR KNE LLC, a company that owns and operates two KFC fast-food franchises in the district, will pay $10,129.44 in back wages and restitution to 18 employees after allegations of failing to properly employ them. 

The company will also pay $10,000 in penalties to the district. Certain individual workers in this settlement could receive as much as $4,257.24 in back pay. 

“District residents work hard for their paychecks, and we are here to make sure they get what they have earned,” Racine said in a statement. “Paying employees fairly is an essential part of ensuring that everyone benefits from the district's booming economy, and we will continue to hold employers accountable to following the law.”


This case is part of Racine’s efforts to strengthen and reinforce wage and hour laws in the district. He says he seeks to ensure employers pay their employees the proper amount, holding them liable by lawsuit of necessary. His office is also consistently working to educate workers in the district about their employment rights.
