NEW YORK (Legal Newsline) — New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman announced a lawsuit Dec. 20 against Victory Motors LLC (Victory Mitsubishi of Larchmont) and Victory Auto Group LLC (Victory Suzuki of the Bronx) for allegations of deception.
According to Schneiderman’s office, the defendants used an “after-sale” product scheme, tacking on a product to the final cost of vehicles without notifying the purchasers or obtaining their consent. More than 1,100 consumers were allegedly victimized. The defendants purportedly added a bogus anti-theft product, which cost as much as $4,000, to consumer purchases.
Schneiderman’s office seeks refunds and restitution for consumers, as well as an injunction to bar the defendants from conducting such allegedly deceptive business practices.
“Consumers shouldn’t have to worry about being scammed by auto dealers when they buy a car,” Schneiderman said. “We will continue to protect New Yorkers – and take on those who seek to rip off consumers with hidden and unwanted fees and products.”
Handling the case for New York was assistant attorney general Sandra Giorno-Tocco. She was assisted by Law Department investigators Peter Schottenfeld and Michael Christian, and senior consumer frauds representative John Katzenstein
