Consumer Financial Protection Bureau accuses Seila Law of failing to comply with investigation

LOS ANGELES (Legal Newsline) —  A government agency is suing Seila Law LLC, a law firm, for alleged violation of federal law.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau filed a complaint on June 22 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, alleging that the law firm failed to respond to the civil investigative demand (CID) it had been sent.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges if suffered damaged. The plaintiff holds the defendant responsible because for allegedly failing to comply with the plaintiff's petition and order. The law firm allegedly refused to produce the documents the bureau had requested, citing attorney-client privilege. 

The plaintiff seeks order the defendant to show cause why it should not be required to comply with the CID, order the defendant to comply with the CID within 10 days of the order and any further relief this court grants. The agency is represented by Gabriel O'Malley and Richa Dasgupta of Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in Washington.
