Employee blames Family Dollar for injuries sustained during robbery

CLEVELAND (Legal Newsline) — An employee is suing Family Dollar Stores, alleging liability and negligence led to her being beaten by a masked assailant.

Ashlee Anderson filed a complaint May 2 in Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas against Family Dollar Stores of Ohio, Inc., Mutual Properties Ltd., K & Z Mutual Realty, LLC, and John Does 1-10 and John Does Entities 1-10, alleging they failed to protect their employees.

The defendant removed the case to U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio on June 2.

According to the complaint, on May 7, 2016, Anderson suffered physical injuries to her head, neck and shoulders from being struck on the top of the head with a gun by a masked assailant while working at the Family Dollar in East Cleveland, Ohio, late at night. The suit says Anderson had complained to store management about her fears or working by herself after dark.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to provide adequate security in their store.

Anderson seeks trial by jury, compensatory damages of more than $25,000, all legal fees, and all other relief the court deems just. She is represented by attorneys Michael D. Goldstein and Joseph N. Cindric of Goldstein & Goldstein Co., L.P.A. in Cleveland.

U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio case number 1:17-cv-01151-SO
