CHICAGO (Legal Newsline) — An Illinois consumer has filed a class action lawsuit against a Texas dating service business, alleging breach of contract, unfair competition and unjust enrichment.

Chad Perkins of North Aurora, Illinois, filed a complaint, individually and on behalf of all others similarly situated, April 20 in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois against Dallas-based Match Group Inc., doing business as Okcupid alleging the defendant misleads consumers into paying it for its dating service.

According to the complaint, Perkins suffered monetary damages from being misled into paying a false service charge. The plaintiff alleges Okcupid made accounts of dead or inactive accounts in order to deceive consumers, including Perkins, to pay a premium for their service.

Perkins seeks trial by jury, actual damages, treble damages, interest, all legal fees and all relief the court deems just. He is represented by attorney William M. Sweetnam of Sweetnam LLC in Chicago.
