EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (Legal Newsline) — Consumers are suing Northstar Lottery Group LLC, an Illinois business that managed the Illinois Lottery, citing alleged fraud.
Raqqa Inc., Michael Cairo, Jason Van Lente and John Bean filed a complaint on behalf of all other Illinois citizens similarly situated earlier this year in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Northstar, alleging that the Illinois business refused to pay out winners while locking in profits for itself.
The defendant removed the case to U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois on March 8.
According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that they suffered damages from not being paid for their winning tickets. The plaintiffs holds Northstar responsible because the defendant allegedly failed and refused to pay grand prizes to winners.
The plaintiffs seek disgorgement in an amount that exceeds $50,000, all legal fees and any other relief the court deems just. They are represented by Robert Sprague of Sprague & Urban in Belleville, Ill.
