SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Legal Newsline) — A consumer has filed a class action lawsuit against Whirlpool Corp., alleging that the appliance manufacturer's ovens have defective high-temperature cleaning systems.

Nancy Turgeon filed a complaint on behalf of herself and all others similarly situated on March 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California. She alleges that the appliance manufacturer falsely advertised its ovens.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she suffered damages from being misled into purchasing a defective product that doesn't work as advertised. The plaintiff holds Whirlpool Corp. responsible because the defendant allegedly manufactured its oven with insufficient heat resistance when consumers use the self-cleaning cycle, rendering the unit inoperable.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory, statutory and punitive damages, interest, restitution, injunctive relief, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by L. Timothy Fisher of Bursor & Fisher P.A. in Walnut Creek, Calif.
