IMDB sues California over birthday disclosure bill

SAN FRANCISCO (Legal Newsline) — A Washington business is suing the State of California, alleging free speech violations.

IMDB.Com Inc. filed a complaint Nov. 10 in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against California Attorney General Kamala Harris, alleging she enforces a bill that will require the plaintiff to remove from its website the age and birthdays of individuals.

According to the complaint, IMDB.Com suffered monetary damages due to the implementation of bill AB 1687. The plaintiff alleges Harris, in her official capacity as attorney general of California, passed a bill that violates the rights of the plaintiff regarding free speech.

IMDB Corp. seeks declaration AB 1687 is unconstitutional and unenforceable, a permanent injunction against the defendant, court costs and any further relief the court grants. It is represented by attorneys John C. Hueston and Moez M. Kaba of Hueston Hennigan LLP in Los Angeles.
