DETROIT (Legal Newsline) — A Michigan municipality is suing the Environmental Protection Agency and other EPA officials, over water treatment costs.
The city of Highland Park filed a lawsuit Oct. 28 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan against the United States Environment Protection Agency, EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy, acting Region 5 administrator Robert Kaplan, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, MDEQ director Keith Creagh, the Michigan Department of Transportation, MDOT director Kirk T Steudle, the Great Lakes Water Authority, GLWA executive director Sue McCormick and Wayne County, Michigan, alleging violation of federal law.
According to the complaint, Highland Park suffered environmental damages because the defendants failed to pay their proportionate share of treatment costs.
Highland Park seeks an order for the defendants to pay their respective share of treatment costs to the plaintiff, mandate GLWA to charge the plaintiff not more than its proportionate share of costs, order the GLWA to cease and desist collection of property taxes from Highland Park residents, court costs and any further relief the court grants.
