PHOENIX (Legal Newsline) — Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich has announced that a judge has granted his request to consolidate 1,106 open lawsuits filed by a serial litigator targeting Arizona businesses.
The judge also barred the litigator from filing any new complaints asserting similar claims. Brnovich believes the plaintiff in all these cases, Advocates for Individuals with Disabilities, used trolling litigation tactics to produce profitable out-of-court settlements.
Because of this, Brnovich decided to intervene in the litigation as a matter of public importance.
Brnovich’s office seeks a motion to dismiss all consolidated cases on the basis of threshold questions of law and fact common to all consolidated cases, including the plaintiff’s lack of standing. It has also been granted its motion for sanctions against the litigator.
