Email subscriber files class action against Yahoo!

SAN FRANCISCO (Legal Newsline) - A North Carolina woman is suing Yahoo!, alleging breach of contract after having personal information stolen from her email account. 

Maria Sventek filed a class action lawsuit, individually and on behalf of others similarly situated, against Yahoo! Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California Sept. 23. She alleges Yahoo! failed to secure the personal information of its subscribers.

According to the complaint, Sventek has suffered damages from having her personal information stolen from her email account. The plaintiff alleges Yahoo! failed to implement certain safeguards to ensure that its subscribers' personal information is safe.

Sventek seeks trial by jury, actual and statutory damages, injunctive relief, declaratory relief, punitive damages, all legal fees plus interest and any other relief the court deems just.

She is represented by attorney Hank Bates of Carney Bates & Pulliam PLLC in Little Rock, Arkansas.
