WASHINGTON (Legal Newsline) — The U.S. government has filed a lawsuit against a broadcasting company and its president for alleged fraud.
The U.S. government filed a complaint on June 16 in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia against Cesta D. Newman and Newman Broadcasting Inc., alleging they made false claims that Newman Broadcasting was a woman-owned business.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that the United States of America suffered monetary damages. The plaintiff holds Cesta D. Newman and Newman Broadcasting Inc. responsible because defendant Cesta Newman allegedly made false claims that her late husband, John R. Newman, had no involvement with Newman Broadcasting in order to obtain the status of a woman-owned business.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks treble damages and civil penalties, monetary damages equal to the amount of the bidding credit, interest, court costs and any further relief this court grants. It is represented by Channing D. Phillips and Daniel F. Van Horn.
