DENVER (Legal Newsline) – A woman alleges the operator of for-profit colleges in Colorado retaliated against her for reporting purported violations.

Debbi Potts filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado against Center for Excellence in Higher Education Inc., formerly known as CollegeAmerica Denver Inc., alleging retaliation under the False Claims Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she suffered damages as the result of having claims filed against her by the defendant in Larimer County court.

The plaintiff holds Center for Excellence in Higher Education Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly retaliated against plaintiff for reporting to the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges that the defendant was violation several accrediting standards.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation for special damages, injunction against plaintiff, dismissal of any legal claims against her, court costs and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Logan R. Martin and Zachary S. Westerfield of Westerfield & Martin LLC in Denver and Brandon J. Mark of Parsons Behle & Latimer in Salt Lake City.
