SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Legal Newsline) - An individual has filed a class action lawsuit against an educational institution for allegedly violating federal telephone harassment statutes.

Twonesha Johnson-Hendricks filed a complaint on behalf of herself and all others similarly situated June 24 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California against University of Phoenix and Does 1-10, alleging they contacted the plaintiff using an automatic dialing system for which she purportedly incurred charges.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in August 2015 she was contacted on her cell phone several times despite her request that the defendants stop calling her.

Johnson-Hendricks holds the University of Phoenix and Does 1-10 responsible because the defendants allegedly contacted the plaintiff several times in an attempt to solicit their services to her.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks $500 in statutory damages for each and every violation, $1,500 in treble damages for each and every violation, and any other relief as the court deems just.

She is represented by Todd M. Friedman and Adrian R. Bacon of Law Offices of Todd M. Friedman P.C. in Beverly Hills.
