WASHINGTON (Legal Newsline) — The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced it will mail 1,630 checks worth a total of $1.87 million to consumers victimized by an alleged illegal telemarketing operation run by Expense Management America.

The amount given to each consumer will vary based on the money the consumers lost.

Expense Management America purportedly ran a scheme that involved charging homeowners an upfront fee for debt and mortgage relief services and then never actually providing the promised services. The FTC has obtained a series of orders that has put a stop to the conduct of the defendants and won money for the consumers.
