NEW YORK (Legal Newsline) – The Office of New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman has reached four separate settlements with auto dealers that will provide consumers with $2 million in restitution.
The settlements resolve allegations of selling “after-sale” products unlawfully, such as credit repair and identity theft protection services. The dealerships involved include Koeppel Auto Group, Plaza Dealerships and Manfredi Auto Group and Huntington Honda. These dealerships have multiple locations in Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island and Westchester among them.
“Consumers deserve to be treated honestly by car dealerships, and shouldn’t be hit with hidden fees that inflate the price of the vehicle,” Schneiderman said. “My office will continue to make it a priority to crackdown on these deceptive business practices that target unsuspecting consumers.”
The settlement bars the dealers from selling credit repair and identity theft services, misrepresenting vehicle prices in final lease or sales contracts and failing to provide consumers with agreements that conspicuously list all after-sale products.
