PHOENIX (Legal Newsline) - Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich says a San Tan Valley, Arizona, woman has been found guilty of one count of theft and four counts of fraudulent schemes and artifices.

April Mooney allegedly stole $240,000 from her employer using four fraudulent schemes, according to Brnovich's office. The defendant purportedly used the stolen money to pay for personal expenses, dining, shopping and ATM withdrawals at casinos.

Mooney began work at J.F. Ellis Corp. as its controller, a role that included handling accounts payable, bank reconciliations and office administration, in 2010. The company became suspicious in 2014 and terminated her employment.

The local police department looked into the matter. It alleges that Mooney used four different schemes to steal money for pecuniary gain. Two schemes dealt with unauthorized company credit card use, another involved entering checks into the accounting system as a legitimate expense but making the check payable to herself, and the final one involved setting up a fake business to steal money.

Mooney is scheduled to be sentenced on April 22.

Assistant Attorneys General Joseph Waters and Beverly Rudnick handled the case.
