Washington D.C. attorney general targets alleged unlawful immigration consulting

Immigrationlaw

WASHINGTON (Legal Newsline) - District of Columbia Attorney General Karl A. Racine has filed a lawsuit against Unlimited Technologies and Services Corporation (UTS) and its owner, Mardoqueo M. Sanchez, for alleged unlawful immigrant-consulting services.

“Immigration fraud can sometimes go unreported because victims are afraid to come forward due to their undocumented status,” Racine said. “The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is here to protect all District residents and bring to justice those who would defraud consumers, including the immigrant community.”

Persons without attorney licenses or accreditation under federal law cannot provide legal assistance related to immigration matters. Racine charges UTS and Sanchez with falsely advertising that they were notarios, a Latin American term for one authorized to practice law. UTS allegedly had no actual licensed attorneys on staff.

The complaint also alleges UTS and Sanchez harmed consumers through incorrect legal advice. The District seeks injunctive relief as well as restitution, penalties and other costs.
