NEW YORK (Legal Newsline) – New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman announced that his office has revised the code of conduct for the wind energy industry in the state.
The code was developed to promote sustainable growth throughout the wind industry through transparency and deterring improper relationships, benefits and land-use agreements.
“Public officials throughout New York should encourage the growth of a strong, sustainable wind industry for the public good and not for their own private financial gain,” Schneiderman said. “The revised code of conduct announced today will help ensure greater transparency and limit the potential for corruption and unfair outside influence, thereby fostering the growth of a responsible renewable energy industry throughout our state.”
The code, which was first brought forth in 2009 and signed by many wind companies, was revised to address wind farm development projects that preceded the 2011 Power NY Act that established a centralized process for the siting of electric generating facilities and re-powering projects.
Thus far, companies that have signed the new agreement include Lighthouse Wind LLC, which has a proposed wind power project in Niagara County and Orleans County; Galloo Island Wind LLC, which has a proposed wind power project in Jefferson County; and Stockbridge Wind LLC, which has a proposed wind power project in Madison County.
