LOS ANGELES (Legal Newsline) - A Los Angeles man is suing Amazon, alleging it falsely advertises its services.
Gregory Harris, individually and for all others similarly situated, filed a class action lawsuit Jan. 13 in Superior Court of California County of Los Angeles against Amazon.com, alleging violations of the Electronic Funds Transfer Act, violations of California's Consumer Legal Remedies Act, and violations of California's Unfair Competition Law.
The suit alleges Amazon represents to consumers they can use its services to purchase products directly from its website at no cost to the consumer besides the cost of the product. However, the suit alleges, Amazon.com charged Harris and others in the class additional fees, specifically an "Amazon Prime" membership fee.
Harris and others in the class seek injunctive relief, actual damages, punitive and statutory damages, interests, attorney fees and other costs of the suit. They are represented by attorneys Todd M. Friedman and Adrian R. Bacon of the Law Offices of Todd M. Friedman in Beverly Hills, California. The defendant removed the case to U.S. District Court for the Central District of California in February.
