CHICAGO (Legal Newsline)—A Chicago couple is suing an Asian supermarket over claims it blocks out the expiration date on its food products.
Sinchai Suptaveeying and Pichanun Panichapol, individually and for all others similarly situated, filed a class- action lawsuit on Jan. 13 in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois Eastern Division against Tai Nam Corp., alleging violations of federal and Illinois state food and business practice codes.
The suit states the plaintiffs shopped at Tai Nam in Chicago during December 2015, and they noticed that the expiration dates on Tai Nam's Preserve Sweet & Sour Mango products were blocked out with a black marker.
The plaintiffs allegedly removed the black marker and saw that the product had an expiration date of March 2015.
The plaintiffs and others in the class seek damages, restitution and disgorgement, declaratory and injunctive relief, interests, and attorney fees and costs. They are represented by attorney Jeffrey E. Crane of the Law Office of Jeffrey E. Crane in Northbrook, Illinois.
