MOBILE, Ala. (Legal Newsline) – The United States Attorney's Office in the Southern District of Alabama recently filed a lawsuit against a physician and two health care facilities in the state over allegations they submitted thousands of false claims.
U.S. Attorney Kenyen R. Brown filed the lawsuit on Dec. 29, 2015 in the Southern Division of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Alabama against Dr. James M. Crumb, Coastal Neurological Institute, and Mobility Metabolism and Wellness, alleging violations of the False Claims Act, payment under mistake of fact and unjust enrichment.
The suit alleges the defendants knowingly submitted thousands of false or fraudulent claims to federal health care programs, including Medicare, the Alabama Medicaid Agency, the TRICARE/CHAMPUS Program and other government health care benefit programs.
The defendants in turn allegedly received more than $1 million in reimbursements to which they are not entitled, the suit claims.
Brown seeks treble damages, compensatory and punitive damages, interests, and costs of the suit. In addition to Brown, the U.S. government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Deidre Colson, and attorneys Daryl A. Atchison and Steven E. Butler in the U.S. Attorney's Office in Mobile.
