TOPEKA, Kan. (Legal Newsline) – Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt announced that he is suing Christopher Maselka and Iowa Steak Co. LLC over alleged violations of consumer protection laws in Kansas.

The Iowa Steak Co. is a limited liability corporation owned by Maselka. Its employees go door-to-door selling meat products. The attorney general’s office alleges two violations of the Kansas Food Advertising Sales Practice Act and five violations of the Kansas Consumer Protection Act.

Schmidt noted that under state law, any door-to-door sale must include a three-day right to cancel. The salesperson must inform consumers about this right verbally and in writing when making a sale. Additionally, the salesperson must wait at least five days before cashing consumers' checks. In Kansas, anyone selling meat must also have a valid retail meat license approved by the Kansas Department of Agriculture.

Maselka had been previously prohibited from engaging in such practices by a 1998 Kansas court order.
