COLUMBUS, Ohio (Legal Newsline) – Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced his office is suing Thrifty Propane for allegedly misrepresenting its services and failing to properly deliver propane to customers across Ohio.
DeWine alleges that Thrifty Propane violated Ohio’s Consumer Sales Practices Act. Over the last eight months, his office had received 38 complaints with consumers citing problems getting their propane when needed and trouble getting a hold of the company. DeWine will look to get restitution for these consumers while putting an end to any violations of the state’s consumer laws.
“Many Ohio families rely on propane to heat their homes, and they rightly expect to receive the propane they pay for,” DeWine said. “In this case, we found a pattern of people who didn’t receive what they were promised. We are filing this action to protect consumers.”
Thrifty Propane sells propane and propane tanks to customers in Ohio and nearby states, offering delivery and payment programs. One such program involves consumers paying a fixed amount in advance to have their tanks automatically refilled when they reach a certain level. The lawsuit alleges that Thrifty Propane failed to deliver on these types of programs.
