LOS ANGELES (Legal Newsline) - Nature Made, a dietary supplements manufacturer, is being sued for alleged false advertising over its vitamin E product.
Laura Corbett filed the lawsuit on Aug. 7 in U.S. District court in California against Pharmavite, the parent company of Nature Made.
Nature Made claims its vitamin E supplement helps keep people’s hearts healthy, but the product doesn’t provide those benefits, the plaintiff alleges.
“Consumers’ health concerns motivate the purchase and consumption of dietary supplements such as (Nature Made’s) vitamin E supplements,” the lawsuit said. “By prominently but falsely stating that its vitamin E products provide heart health benefits, (Nature Made) plays upon those concerns to lure consumers to purchase its products.”
The lawsuit said experts measure whether a product helps keep a healthy heart based on if it can prevent cardiovascular disease. Studies have shown, the lawsuit said, that vitamin E doesn’t prevent cardiovascular disease.
