LITTLE ROCK - Chiropractors in Arkansas cannot perform a controversial procedure that requires anesthetizing the patient, Attorney General Mike Beebe recently stated in an opinion to the Arkansas State Board of Chiropractic Examiners. Arkansas' licensed chiropractors are by state law specifically forbidden from using any form of drugs or surgery, stated the opinion written by assistant Attorney General Joel DiPippa. Therefore the state's chiropractors can't practice manipulation under anesthesia even though they themselves do not administer the anesthetic. Quoting the previous attorney-general, the opinion noted that a preferred course would be to "seek legislative clarification permitting chiropractors this additional refinement of their practice."
