JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (Legal Newsline) - Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster filed a lawsuit against SRB Energy, LLC on Friday after the company allegedly violated underground storage tank laws at one of its gas stations.

SRB Energy allegedly violated storage tank laws by not maintaining financial responsibility of the underground tanks at the Next Stop No. 3 gas station in Republic, Mo. SRB Energy owns the Next Stop gas station.

Financial responsibility ensures that patrons and visitors will be protected from property damage and personal injury.

As part of the suit, Koster is seeking civil penalties, in addition to getting the company to follow the underground storage tank laws.

"Accidents related to underground storage tanks can cause serious damage to people and property," Koster said. "The Attorney General's Office will take action when we find an owner or business does not have adequate financial protection."
