JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (Legal Newsline) - U.S. Fidelis will pay an additional settlement to Missouri consumers after another lawsuit was filed against it for allegedly misleading consumers, Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster said Monday.

U.S. Fidelis will pay the new settlement of $45,492.17 to Missouri consumers who allegedly received confusing communications from the auto service contract provider. The communications allegedly told consumers their warranties were about to expire and they needed to pay to receive coverage. In addition, the suit alleges the company would mislead consumers into believing they were getting more coverage than what they actually got.

"Our goal throughout this case has been to recover every penny possible for the victims of U.S. Fidelis and to hold those who perpetrated the schemes accountable," Koster said. "We will continue our efforts on behalf of Missouri consumers to take back every ill-gotten gain received by this company."

Missouri was the first state to sue U.S. Fidelis for violating consumer laws in March 2008. The lawsuit alleged the company undertook illegal telemarketing, deceiving mailings and confusing sales calls and TV ads in addition to robocalls. In April 2010, other states followed with similar action.

The 474 Missouri consumers who received restitution from the previous suit will each get an additional $95.97.
