MADISON, Wis. (Legal Newsline) - In a judgment announced by Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen on Wednesday, Gary J. Nagy and his company, St. Croix Truck and Trailer Ltd., must pay $29,444 to the state over allegations of hazardous waste violations.
Nagy's New Richmond company allegedly violated state laws by storing old paint without a hazardous waste permit and storing sand blasting waste without a solid waste permit.
Circuit Court Judge Scott R. Needham of St. Croix County signed a judgment last week that will require Nagy to pay $15,000 in fines and court costs and reimburse $14,444 to the Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Justice for investigation expenses.
“Improper storage of hazardous waste can pose a threat to human health and the environment,” Van Hollen said. “The state of Wisconsin takes these types of violations seriously as ensuring compliance with the regulations not only serves to protect people and our natural resources but also to maintain a level playing field for business.”
Nagy has since removed the old paint from his New Richmond facility.
