AUSTIN, Texas (Legal Newsline) – A Fox News host called an attack ad recently released by Texas Sen. Wendy Davis, the Democratic gubernatorial candidate, “one of the most outrageous attack ads ever” on his program.
Davis created a media firestorm on Friday with the release of her new 30-second spot entitled “Justice,” which starts with a picture of a wheelchair, presumably representative of her disabled Republican opponent Greg Abbott, then asserts that even though Texas’ attorney general sued and received millions when a tree fell on and disabled him, he’s spent his career “working against other victims.”
"Abbott argued a woman whose leg was amputated was not disabled because she had an artificial limb," a narrator in the ad says. "He ruled against a rape victim who sued a corporation for failing to do a background check on a sexual predator. He sided with a hospital that failed to stop a dangerous surgeon who paralyzed patients. Greg Abbott: he's not for you."
In the teaser for his Monday evening Fox News show, Sean Hannity called the spot “one of the most outrageous attack ads ever.”
While Davis apparently denied the invitation, the popular host brought Abbott on his program to discuss the ad.
“(If) she wants to attack a guy in a wheelchair, that’s her prerogative,” Abbott said. “As for me, I’m running a different type of campaign.”
Abbott went on to call every accusation in Davis’ ad “false.”
“Her campaign is focused on one thing, and that is attacking me,” Abbott said. “Most of what I’m running on is trying to solve the problems that (the Obama Administration) has created, even here in Texas.”
While Davis continues to attack him, Abbott said he would focus on the future, which includes securing the border and keeping Texas No. 1 for jobs.
