HONOLULU (Legal Newsline) – With the primary election only days away, incumbent U.S. Senator Brian Schatz is trailing fellow Democrat U.S. Rep. Colleen Hanabusa by eight points, the latest poll shows.
According to a Monday Honolulu Star-Advertiser poll, 50 percent of voters would select Hanabusa, while 42 percent would vote for the incumbent.
The poll further shows both candidates carry a favorability rating in the mid-50s range heading into the Saturday Democratic primary.
Throughout their campaigns, both candidates have expressed intentions on improving the cost of living in Hawaii and creating better paying jobs.
Hawaii’s incumbent governor could also face a tough challenge, if the poll is any indicator.
The poll shows state Sen. David Ige ahead of Democratic Gov. Neil Abercrombie by a 54-36 percent margin.
