Two Illinois men are suing an online sports betting company over allegations it didn't give customers the “bonus credit” it promised.
Cory Hemrich and Cooper Ogburn filed a lawsuit on April 21 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois against DraftKings. Inc. claiming the company offered a “free bonus” after initial payment. DraftKings is an online company that offers cash prizes to fantasy sports players.
Hemrich, a resident of Richland County, Illinois, said he paid DraftKings $25 during the 2014 NFL season and was told he would receive a 100 percent first-time deposit bonus, however, he claims he never received the full bonus.
Ogburn, a resident of Lake County, Illinois, and a student at the University of Missouri claims he paid DraftKings $250 and also did not receive the full bonus as allegedly promised.
DraftKings gave out approximately $200 million in prizes in 2014 and has approximately 2 million registered users participating online. The company advertised that it would “double the deposit” for participating.
The lawsuit seeks class-acton status for those who participated online in Illinois and Missouri, and the plaintiffs believe damages will exceed $5 million plus court costs. They are represented by Richard S. Cornfeld of the Law Office of Richard S. Cornfeld, and Anthony S. Bruning of Lertiz, Plunkert & Bruning, PC. Both law firms are based in St. Louis, Missouri.
