Wisconsin waste management company settles over lack of construction permit‏

FRANKLIN, Wis. (Legal Newsline) - Wisconsin's attorney general has settled a case with a waste management company alleged to have violation Wisconsin's air pollution laws.

Waste Management of Wisconsin, Inc., located at 10712 South 124th Street in Franklin, Wis., is alleged to have violated the air pollution laws relating to the construction without permits and operation of stationary sources of air pollution.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the complaint, filed October 9 in Milwaukee County Circuit Court, did not issue Waste Management the permit to construct the company's stationary air pollution source.

"Wisconsin law requires that industrial facilities comply with permits designed to protect the public from harmful air emissions," Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen said. "The Wisconsin Department of Justice will continue to work with the DNR to ensure that Wisconsin's citizens and natural resources are protected through compliance with the law."

Waste Management, as part of the settlement, agreed to pay $75,00 in forfeitures, statutory charges and costs.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources investigated the case and Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge William S. Pocan approve the settlement.
