MADISON, Wis. (Legal Newsline) - Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced a $140,000 judgment on Monday against an oil recycling facility for environmental violations.
Benz Oil Inc.'s facility in the Village of Butler in Waukesha County allegedly released contaminants into its surrounding soil and groundwater in violation of the state's Hazardous Waste Management and Remedial Action Laws.
The alleged release could lead to significant environmental or health effects because used oil does not readily break down and may contain toxic chemicals and heavy metals.
As a result of the recently announced judgment, Benz revised its facility activities to bring it into compliance with Wisconsin law.
Under terms of the judgment, Benz paid $140,000 in total forfeitures, statutory charges and costs, including $2,573 in attorney's fees.
